Actually, the Indian Army does not protect the borders of India, this responsibility lies with the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF). It does not come under the Defense Ministry. The Central Armed Police Forces come under the Home Ministry. There are 7 forces within CAPF, which have different tasks. Four of these forces protect the country’s borders. This list includes BSF, ITBP, Assam Rifles and SSB. Apart from these, NSG, CISF and CRPF also come under CAPF.

If we talk about protecting the country’s borders, BSF protects the country on the borders with Pakistan and Bangladesh. ITBP i.e. Indo-Tibetan Border Police is deployed on the borders with China. Assam Rifles is responsible for the borders with Myanmar, while SSB i.e. Sashastra Seema Bal is deployed on the Nepal and Bhutan borders. Assam Rifles is led by the Lieutenant General of the Army. While BSF, ITBP and SSB are led by senior IPS officers.
